Student Health Services

Lubbock High School has a qualified Registered Nurse on duty to minister to the health needs of students that may arise during the school day and to maintain student health records. If a student becomes ill or injured during school, the teacher will allow the student to report to the clinic. If the illness or injury is such that the student requires more in-depth attention, the nurse, in conjunction with the office, will contact the parent. In the absence of the nurse, this function will be filled by the counselors.

For additional service, parents/guardians of Lubbock High students may make an appointment with their closest neighborhood elementary or secondary school nurse. Parents may also use the District phone at their neighborhood school to phone the Lubbock High attendance office in the event of their student's being absent due to illness.

The administering of medications to any student by their school is limited by the following provisions:

1 No medication, including aspirin, will be administered unless the school nurse has a written request to do so from the parent, legal guardian, or other person having legal control of the student.
2 All such requests must be kept on file in the nurse's office.
3 The medication must be in its original container and properly labeled.
4 The medication may be administered by the school nurse or persons designated by the principal.

The following procedures will be followed in accidents or illness:

1 The name of the doctor that parents wish to be called in case of an emergency must be on file in the office.
2 If an injury or illness is considered serious, every effort will be made to contact the parent and/or doctor specified by the parent.
3 No student who is ill or injured will be sent home without first contacting the parent. In extreme emergencies, the administrator may make arrangements for immediate hospitalization of injured or ill students, contacting the parent or guardian in advance if possible.

Accident insurance may be purchased through the school district. For information, contact the Administration office.
