Library

The mission of the Lubbock High School library is to operate as the center of the learning community by instructing students and teachers in the use of the latest print, media, and research resources so all patrons garner the knowledge and skills needed to be information literate citizens.

Lubbock High is proud of its new library facility (completed November 2006) and the opportunities it offers for research and enrichment. It has a varied collection of approximately 29,000 items on a wide variety of subjects for study and recreational reading.

A moderately quiet, academic atmosphere is maintained at all times. Students thoroughly enjoy having a place where they can engage in study, reading for pleasure, or research activities. Many students and teachers depend on the library being conducive to study and research.

The LHS Library provides an Internet based card catalog which makes browsing the collection easy and convenient whether at school or home. Subscription databases are linked on this site and offer a powerful research tool to faculty and students. In order to use a computer in the library it is imperative that each student know his/her nine digit student ID number. This number serves as the user name when logging on. The password is the two digit birth month and two digit birthday of the student.

Library Schedule

Monday through Thursday

 7:45 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
(closed during lunch)
Friday 7:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

When coming to the library before school or after school, students need to sign in at the entrance. During the school day, passes are required.

Students may come to the library during an open period; however, once they leave the library they are to exit the building and wait until the next class begins. Students ARE NOT to be in the halls for any reason during open periods.

The library staff does not issue restroom passes. Trips to the restroom need to be taken care of before coming to the library.

Students who need to come to the library during the school day are required to bring an official library pass issued by their teacher. These passes are a two-part carbon, so that the teacher and the librarian have a record of the student's library visit. Students should check in at the circulation desk when they arrive so that library staff members are able to mark arrival and departure times.

All students sent to the library with passes will be sent back to the class 13-15 minutes before the end of the period to receive end of class instructions and possible assignments.

Books are checked out to students for two weeks and may be renewed. Reference books are available on an overnight basis only. These reference materials may be checked out after 4:35 p.m. and must be in before 8:30 a.m. the following morning. A $1.00 fine is charged per day for overdue reference materials.

At this point, the Lubbock High library does not charge fines for overdue regular circulation books. If overdue regular circulation books become a problem, fines will be charged per book per day. The bottom line: the library staff doesn't want students' money; the library staff simply wants the books returned for others to use.

If you have any question about the Lubbock High library, please contact the librarian, Michele Campbell, at 806-766-1439 or via e-mail at michelecampbell@lubbockisd.org.
