Career
Center
Every
student at Lubbock High School will eventually have
a career. Students can find out about any career and
the preparation needed for that career by visiting
the Career Center.
The
LHS Career Center is located in the Counseling Center.
The
Career Center holds a computer lab of both PCs and
Macintosh with career information software that will
research over 10,000 careers and create a resume or
portfolio. Some of the computers are connected to
the Internet. There is also an extensive career library
that includes specific career publications, magazines,
videos, and audio tapes as well as reference books
such as the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Students
are encouraged to begin making plans for their future
by visiting the Career Center as well as by scheduling
classes which have a connection to their future career.
Students
must have a pass from their teacher to come to the
Career Center. All sophomores visit the Career Center
in the fall semester for an orientation visit and
a lesson from the Career Counselor, Mrs. Silvas.
A Career Center newsletter is published every month
and distributed to the homerooms for the student to
read. The newsletter provides students with career
information to help in their future plans and upcoming
events related to careers.
