Advanced Classes

Advanced classes, with a standard of entrance higher than in other high schools, will be scheduled at Lubbock High School.

LEAP Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate Courses:

Refer to the course offerings booklet for a more detailed explanation of the Advanced Placement courses. Each of these courses receives one extra grade point per semester course. The following Advanced Placement and IB courses are offered at Lubbock High School:

  • Advanced French/IB (HL), Calculus AB/BC/IB Mathematics, (HL) Government
  • Advanced German, Chemistry/IB (SL) Math Studies/IB(SL)w/precalculus
  • Advanced Latin/IB (HL) Computer Science II/IB (SL) Math  IB (SL) w/pre-calculus
  • Advanced Spanish/IB (HL) Economics *Physics
  • Art III Appreciation/History *English III *Physics B/IB (HL)
  • Art IV Advanced Studies *English IV/IB (HL) Psychology
  • Visual Art IB (HL), Statistics

U. S. History
*History of the Americas and World Topics IB (HL)

*To receive IB higher level (HL) credit, courses must be taken in sequence over a two-year period.

LEAP Pre-AP/Pre-IB Courses:

The courses listed below are preparatory for Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate, but no AP examinations are taken at the end of the courses. All Pre-AP/IB courses in grades 9-12 receive one extra grade point per semester.

  • Computer Science I
  • Pre-calculus
  • Biology
  • English I
  • English II
  • Human Geography
  • Chemistry
  • Geometry
  • World History

Requirements for All Advanced Classes:

Entrance requirements for LEAP

a. Pass all portions of TAKS.

b. An overall grade point average (GPA.) of 3.5 and the recommendation of present principal and/or former principal.

c. After meeting the overall entrance requirements ("a" and "b") for LEAP, a student must meet the following criteria for entrance into a LEAP course.

1. English - No grade below a B in English the year prior to entry into the program
2. Math - No grade below a B in math the year prior to entry into the program
3. Science - No grade below a B in science the year prior to entry into the program
4. Social Studies - No grade below a B in social studies the year prior to entry into the program

LEAP Academic Classes

The classes below are offered only at Lubbock High. They are advanced classes but do not follow the entire Pre-AP or Advanced Placement curricula. These classes receive one-half extra grade point per semester course. Although these courses are open to any student who meets the eligibility requirements, students may not transfer to Lubbock High School for a LEAP Academic course.

  • Chemistry
  • English III
  • U.S. History

Requirements for LEAP Academic Classes:

a. An overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.2

b. No grade below a B (80) in the subject requested in the year prior.
